It can sometimes be overwhelming with the amount of skin care products available, and especially if you are on a limited budget or don’t have much time to spend on a skin care routine, it is helpful to know what products are important and why.

One key product that should be in your weekly (or even better, daily) routine is body butter! It can also commonly be referred to as a body moisturiser, but it is a product that is crucial in hydrating and nourishing your skin. Most of us will spend time ensuring our face remains looked after, but neglect to spend as much time on the rest of our body, which can result in dry and scaly looking skin.

Moisturising your body not only helps to keep your skin young and smooth looking, but it also prevents skin irritation such as shaving rashes and chaffing. When your skin is dehydrated it becomes dry and easily irritated. Using a body butter regularly helps to soothe and hydrate the skin, preventing skin irritation from occurring. Regular moisturising can also help to reduce the symptoms of more severe skin irritations such as eczema and psoriasis, however it is important to use a good quality natural moisturiser as the chemicals found in some common moisturisers can actually make the skin irritation even worse.

A good quality body butter should be made up of mainly fats, oils and humectants, compared to a body lotion (which is made up of about 70% water). Our body butter is made of raw unrefined cocoa butter and organic Shea butter, both of which are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, as well as being rich in vitamin A, E and F which boosts collagen production. These ingredients are known to heal irritated skin and help to reduce the appearance of scarring and stretch marks.

Our body butter also contains Hyaluranic acid, which has the ability to attract and hold up to 1000x its weight in moisture, increasing the skins ability to bind moisture which gives the skin a smoother, silkier feel. We have used this ingredient in order to give our body butter a super hydrating effect without it being heavy or feeling greasy.

Using a body butter that contains ingredients like Shea butter can help to increase your skins elasticity and promote cell rejuvenation, which can in turn help to get rid of skin blemishes such as acne and also reduce the appearance of wrinkles – which is just as important for your body as it is your face!

A body butter can provide so many benefits to your skin, keeping it hydrated, healthy and young. A little bit goes a long a way, and to get the most out of it, apply after showering while your pores are open. If you don’t already use a body butter, try and incorporate one into your skin care regime and you will be sure to see a difference! Click here to see our body butter.
